On Tuesday night, Tut slept well. He did wake up at least once in the night and I heard him start to cry but then he said "Gai." It means chicken and for some reason he likes to say it and have us repeat it back. So, it has been almost a reassurance word that we are still here. It was very cute and after responding to him for a few minutes, he went back to sleep.
At breakfast, he still didn't eat very much but it was a little better than before. We had decided to go to the Grand Palace in the morning to get out of the room and try to tire Tut out for our flight. He had a good time on the skytrain and the boat to the Grand Palace and started saying "bye-bye" to everything. :)
It was raining slightly at the Palace, but not too hard and it stopped before we left. It was beautiful, and I'm glad we went, but I wish I had been feeling better. My cold was definitely worse.
This is where the Emerald Buddha is housed. It is actually carved from one piece of Jade.
Tut did well, but by the time we left he was done sightseeing and ready to eat something.
These are the doors to the Emerald Buddha. The middle door can only be used by the King and Queen.
This mural stretched around the entire compound. I don't remember what story it was depicting, but it was really cool.
We got a picture with one of the guards. :) Tut was ready to go at this point.
After the palace, we stopped and got some street food on the way back to the boat. Tut was hungry, but not doing a good job of telling us what he wanted. I think he was a bit overwhelmed by the food choices and we may have waited too long to feed him. We found some skewered chicken that he ate. It tasted similar to teriyaki.
After we got back to the dock, we had to wait for our ferry to come back. Tut wanted to get on a boat and had a tantrum when I wouldn't let him get on just any boat. He calmed down when we got on our ferry and did pretty well on the way back to the hotel.
These are pictures from the ferry.
It would have been fun to have more time on the river. After we got back to the hotel, Tut did not seem like he wanted to sleep. I managed to rock him for a while and he fell asleep. He slept for two hours and we finally had to wake him up. He wasn't too happy about that and didn't eat anything. We took him to the MBK to get some last minute souvenir shopping done. The taxi driver laughed because Tut kept asking to go to sleep. It was only around six in the evening, but I guess he thought his nap was bedtime.
After we got back to the hotel, we had less than an hour to finish packing our stuff up. Tut gave us a big smile when we put him back in bed, but he seemed to know something was up so he never went back to sleep. He did stay in bed most of the time, so that helped with packing.
When we were ready to go, he got his shoes on and was ready to go with us. The Pantip staff were great, if we do go back to Thailand, it would be neat to stay there again. We headed to the airport and got checked in without too much trouble. It wasn't fun getting all of our luggage to the counter while holding a toddler.
When we went through immigration, they pulled us aside. I had put the copy of our memorandum of agreement for the adoption in my purse. It was a good thing because I needed it twice at the airport. The officer finished up his paperwork quickly and then gave the wrong part of the departure/arrival form, so he had to chase after us to exchange it. :)
After we walked a long ways to get to our gate, Tut was very tired and cried a lot asking to go to sleep. He seemed to think that he needed a bed to sleep. So we walked around for a while until he finally fell asleep. When we went to the gate, they also needed to check the paperwork and passports before we could get on the plane. Tut stayed asleep for all of it, but woke up when I put him in his separate seat and tried to buckle him in. He was having none of it. Since he is still two, the flight attendant let me hold him during takeoff and landing. He went right back to sleep and slept for about five hours until about an hour before we landed in Tokyo. He was pretty dazed and quiet though and didn't eat his children's meal. It was so cute I should have taken a picture of it. They had the rice and other foods in different shapes and with little candy eyes. :)
That was the end of our trip in Thailand.
