Day 3

Tut slept well and didn't even get up enough to have a bottle during the night. He woke up around 6:30, so we got ready as quickly as possible and went to breakfast. He actually ate a chicken sausage and a tiny bit of rice before he was ready to go.

We kept him mostly entertained until we were all ready to leave for Siam Ocean World around 9. Just before we left, he pointed to the buffet area and asked for food. He ate two more chicken sausages before we left. That is more solid food than he had eaten in the last two days! Siam Ocean World wasn't quite open yet when we got there, but it was a really neat place. Tut stayed in the ergo the entire time. He wasn't interested in getting down, not even for the kids play area. It was pretty dark in there so I didn't get any other pictures.

He did stay pretty well entertained for about two hours there. We saw otters doing some tricks, lots of fish, a diver in the tank with sharks, etc. All the signs had Thai and English, so it was really interesting to read about the animals. The other family we were with bought the package deal so they rode on a glass bottom boat and had their feet cleaned by tiny fish. We weren't sure if Tut would let us stay long, so we just got general admission. He did better than we expected. He also ate a ton. I was feeding him snacks and bits of popcorn the entire time. I've found that if I give him a piece of food at a time and wait until he finished that one before giving him another, he eats much better. Otherwise he stuffs a ton in his mouth and then spits it all out. His foster mom told us about this tendency.

He was looking pretty tired by the time we left and he fell asleep briefly in the taxi, but he wouldn't sleep in the room. He kept crying and trying to get the door open and asking to go. I had to sit on a chair in front of the door to keep him from opening it. After a while of this, I got out some goldfish and started feeding him. He would take one, chew, cry, chew, cry, swallow, cry and then pretty soon he just stopped crying and started playing. It didn't last very long, maybe an hour before he was back to crying but it was a good sign. Then I finally just sat on the bed. He didn't want to leave me, but he didn't want to get on the bed. He crawled on it a few times and then crawled back off. Finally he crawled on and sat by me until he cried himself to sleep, partly leaning on a pillow at about 4pm.

He didn't stay asleep for long, only about 20 minutes. Then we walked through the Life Center (air conditioned!) and back to Lumpini Park. We're getting to know that place pretty well. It wasn't as hot later in the afternoon and it rained while we were at the park, so that cooled things off even more.

I got a picture of one of the monitor lizards.

We saw some people doing Zumba-like aerobics in the park and that entertained Tut for a bit. When we came back, we went straight to Mali, the restaurant across the street from the hotel. Tut sat with us outside and was calm enough to eat some fried rice and cashews and to let us eat something. We got the leftovers and mangoes and sticky rice to go when he got too fussy. There was a cat nearby and Tut got too close and got his hand scratched. It doesn't look too bad and didn't seem to bother him much when I cleaned it off. Maybe next time he won't try to grab a cat's tail.

We gave him a quick bath, which he didn't like, and brushed his teeth, which he didn't seem to mind,, before trying to get him to sleep. He wouldn't sit down with us, but it didn't take too much pacing to get him to fall asleep. He was really tired.

Tomorrow we go to the embassy in the morning and we leave for the beach in the afternoon. We're coming back to Bangkok on Monday and hopefully the visa will be ready then or on Tuesday. We're making progress! The mangoes and sticky rice was really good, a nice treat for after Tut fell asleep. :)

As I read through your blog today I was reminded of many times in the nursery at church doing the same things to keep a child as happy or distracted as possible because they missed their Mommy:) Not wanting to be put down; eating a cheerio, crying, then eating another; going to the door to get out.....all normal:) You are wonderful parents!! Love you and so proud of you three. Mom

I love the pic of him asleep sitting up against the pillow! So glad he's letting you hold and comfort him some of the time. Enjoy those moments of holding as best you can, I have a feeling once he gets going he'll be a ball of energy you'll be chasing after!

I'm so glad he's eating better...that's a good sign. He's so cute in bed with his shoes on too. I know after a few days of constant crying you are emotionally drained! Hoping the beach will be a good distraction for all of you. Just getting out of that hotel room will be a good start.
