January 2011

January 2011

I continued researching every agency I could find with programs in the countries I was interested in. (I did run everything by Robby too :) Finally, I completely ruled out Japan due to lack of particularly established and well-known agencies with programs and the cost. That was sad, given my connection to Japan, but God needed to get me past that desire so he could actually lead me.

We took the weekend of January 8-9 to concentrate on fasting and praying about adoption. By the end, we both agreed that we thought we should move forward and see where God led. If doors didn't open now, then we would wait. Of course, the day after we pretty much decided to adopt, the hot water heater in our tenant's side of the duplex died. So we had to fix it. It was kinda disheartening, we made this big decision to adopt and then we have this unexpected expense. But it worked out.

I researched another Taiwan option called His Hands and started talking to a lady at AGCI about their Taiwan program. At that time, AGCI required both parents to be 25 years old so we didn't qualify just yet. I talked to a couple of people who had adopted through the agency and some who used this program. We started becoming more set on Taiwan based mostly on liking the birth mother program through AGCI and the program with His Hands.

However, on January 27th, we were told that AGCI's program had just closed to new applicants and they weren't sure when it would reopen, possibly in late spring/early summer.

At the time, this was fine because we thought we didn't qualify anyway. And hopefully they would reopen around May, when we could actually start.

Next: February 2011
