Two more questions. :) One I was actually asked and one I want to explain anyways.
What age range are we looking to adopt?
We are planning for a child under the age of two years. Which lines up with the children our agency places through their Thailand program. We don't really feel qualified as first time parents to adopt a child older than two.
This is Holt's statement: "The majority of children referred to us from Holt Sahathai Foundation range from 15-24 months at time of placement."
This family is currently waiting to be able to travel for their little one. http://adoptionlovestory.blogspot.com/ Very cute. :)
Why a private blog?
Because I am a paranoid government worker.
Okay, that's only part of it. :) I plan to post photos and a lot of information about the adoption and our little one when we get a referral. I want it to be a place to record our story for him/her to read in the future and to keep family and friends up to date. I don't want the blog to follow him/her around for the rest of his/her life. It is very difficult/impossible to completely erase anything that has been displayed publicly on the web. 20 years from now, I don't want friends/enemies, employers, etc. to have access to my child's entire adoption story.
It will be obvious that he/she is adopted, but it should be his/her choice to reveal as much or as little about the adoption as he/she wants.
Also, there are bad people out there and I see no reason to let them browse my blog and personal information anytime they want. Did you know that there is a rising problem with identity theft involving children? Some parents find when they help their kids apply for college loans that they are not eligible because they already have several mortgages and credit card debt under their name and social security number. That is not a problem I want to deal with.
