Hello All!
I've started this blog so that we could have a record of our adoption journey to make into a sort of "baby book," keep friends and family informed about the process, and so I can vent when I need to. :)
So, to start at the beginning. I have always wanted to adopt. For as long as I can remember thinking seriously about having kids (which hasn't been that long) adoption has been a part of the picture. With adopting siblings, siblings-in-law, and a cousin-in-law, you could almost say it is a family thing. For whatever the reason, long exposure or simply a calling, adoption has always been a part of the picture for me. Fortunately for me, Robby agrees with me and is almost as excited as I am. :)
We had always intended to have biological children first, but more recently the thought of adopting first began percolating in my head. It wasn't until Robby's parents decided to adopt another child, this time from China, that I mentioned my thought to Robby. I had been checking out the agencies his parents had been looking into and began to feel a strong desire to adopt first. I did some research and found there were several countries that we would be eligible for by summer. We discussed it for a bit, and found that circumstances would work well to adopt now. We can save money more easily with just two of us and both of us working, we expected to be staying put for a couple more years, and doors just seemed to be opening.
We decided to really pray about it over a weekend and fast a meal in an effort to discern God's leading. At the end of the weekend, we decided that we would pursue adoption. If God opened the doors, that was great. If not, we'd take that as a "not now" and change our plans.
And that is how we decided to adopt. :)
By the time we finish our adoption, my extended family and family through marriage will pretty much cover Asia. We will have Russia, Japan, China, India and Thailand represented. :) Talk about a multicultural family. I wouldn't have it any other way!

Congrats on the big decision! I cannot wait to follow your journey. It is so great to have someone going through the same things we are, at the same time :-)
Much love,

We second the congratulations. Thanks for inviting us to share vicariously in your adoption. We are so excited--for you and for us : ). It's awesome you're adopting from a country that you both feel a connection with already. It's a wonderful country and you'll have a wonderful child.
Love,
Lona
