Maybe Friday?!

The home study visit went very well. Our social worker was very nice and the entire visit actually took less time than he said it would, only about 2 1/2 hours. We had the individual interviews first and then the couple's interview. He mostly just went over the questions from the autobiography and parenting questionnaires in a little more detail. It really wasn't hard at all. :)

A couple from church that are in the process of adopting domestically said when they had their home study visit, their social worker was opening closets and looking around pretty thoroughly. So, I hadn't actually cleaned the closets, but I tried to make sure they were within the acceptable bounds of disorganization. :) But he didn't do that, the only doors I had to open for him were the closet where we have the rifle stored (locked and with no ammo in the house) and where we keep our cleaning products. My first thought when he asked about the cleaning products was maybe he's making sure we have some and use them. :) But it was just to remind us to move them to a higher shelf or put a child lock on the cupboard before we bring our toddler home. :) You can tell we don't have kids yet. :P

Another cool thing was that he did the post-placement reports for a lady in my Bible study group who adopted a couple of years ago. So that was neat that we both had someone in common. And she had mentioned that they had a good social worker. :) He said this will only be his third or fourth international adoption home study. He usually does domestic adoptions and foster care work.

So it went well, but the BEST thing happened when we were saying good-bye. He said he plans to get us a rough draft of the home study on FRIDAY to look over before sending it on to the agency's headquarters. Let me say that again, "FRIDAY!" The reason I am so excited is because I had thought it would take a week or two after the visit to write up. I did not expect him to say he'd have it done by the end of the week! :) I know there will be some back and forth between Holt and LSSS with corrections before it is final, but that will still all take place about two weeks sooner than I had thought it would. And our last home study document got there this week. So it was all great timing, despite my complaints earlier about needing to wait to have the visit. :)

And to celebrate, we used a gift card I'd had since my birthday to go eat at Olive Garden! Yay!

Other than some nervousness in the afternoon, yesterday was pretty good. :) Now to finish gathering dossier documents!
