Delays and New Requirements

Chat turned 27 months old today, or actually last night in Thailand. I am really hoping that by the time he turns 30 months old that we are either home with him or in Thailand. Right now, it is really hard to tell if that will happen or not.

There have been a lot of delays lately. I believe mostly due to the Thai Government's social worker's medical leave. There were no first approvals in November and it looks like none at the first board meeting in December. At least one family was told they should be presented at the board meeting tonight, so hopefully that will break the long drought.

The other issue is that at the beginning of this month we heard that Thailand added a requirement to have a letter from a psychologist stating that the adoptive parents are in good mental health. Apparently this applies to all current applications, so the family who expects to be presented tonight had to move quickly to get their letter. They are the first ones to be considered under the new requirement, so other families have been told to wait to obtain our letters until we know if their letter is approved.

Since it is the holidays and psychologists are busy, I went ahead and got the soonest appointment I could which is on January 4th. Since the next board meeting is on January 9th, that should allow us to just make it, though Holt said sooner is better. I don't know if we would be presented on the 9th, but at least we wouldn't be the ones holding it up with the absence of the letter. We also have a friend working to see if any of the people she knows could get us in sooner.

So, basically we know we won't get approval this month, but as long as the letter is in, we could get it at the January 9th or 23rd meetings. If that happens, we should be able to travel in March. If we are don't get approval until February, then we probably won't travel until April.

Did I mention that my brother-in-law got engaged recently and wants to get married in March or April? This will be a busy spring.

Still no official update yet, but I am hoping for this week. :) That would be a great Christmas present!
