Local Adoption Group

I recently discovered that there is an international adoption group here! I had hoped there was one, but didn't know how to find it or if it even existed until recently. When we had our home study visit, our social worker hadn't heard of one in town and I figured he would be our best resource. Turns out that my Sunday School class combined with a yummy local restaurant was all I needed. :)

In Sunday School, there was a couple I didn't remember seeing before in our small group when we broke out for discussion. I noticed them, but didn't really say more than hi. After church, we went to lunch with our friends, some of whom had recently returned from several months of training for work. While we were waiting for a table to open up, I recognized the couple from Sunday School also waiting with their two children. The youngest was the cutest little Chinese boy who reminded me of my soon to be little brothers-in-law. So, feeling rather awkward, but too excited not to, I introduced myself and brought up adoption. :) Turns out there is a group of adoptive families that get together regularly! Yay! The ladies meet on Monday mornings, so I am definitely going to have to take a half day sometime soon to join them.

After a bit of discussion and explaining where and who we were adopting through, it turns out there is a family here that used Holt to bring their little boy home from Thailand a year ago! And, when she mentioned the little boy's name, I realized I had read their blog! Isn't that cool!

Also, the family we met from church were leaving soon to return to China to adopt a little girl. They left on Friday and you can read about their adoption journey here. It is very encouraging to have someone who can relate so closely to my in-law's adoption and can answer my questions about the paperwork milestones they will be reaching hopefully very soon.

God is good.
