As of Monday, February 3, Tut is legally our son! :)
We had a great trip to San Antonio, we went out on Saturday and made a long weekend of it. It was about an eight hour trip from door to door each way. I wasn't sure how Tut would do since his longest car trip so far was about four hours and for the plane trip home, he slept the whole way. He ended up doing very well. On the way there, the last hour he was starting to go a bit crazy, but for the most part he played with his toys in his seat, napped and listened to the CDs. :)
We got into San Antonio around dinner time on Saturday and, after checking into the hotel, we searched out a Panera Bread! Yum, I love their bread bowls. It was getting late when we got back to the hotel, but we were still on El Paso time, so we spent some time in the pool anyways. Tut got more comfortable after we were in the pool for a while and let us help him float a bit and kick his feet as we pulled him through the water. When it was bed time, he took a while to fall asleep but he did pretty well sleeping in a strange place.
On Sunday, it was pretty chilly and drizzled in the morning, but we headed to the zoo after breakfast anyways. Since the weather wasn't great, the zoo was very empty and since the Spurs won their game on Saturday, the zoo let the first 100 people (including us) in free. :) We had a fun morning looking at all the animals braving the weather and we especially enjoyed the indoor exhibits. We ate lunch at the zoo and the headed back to the hotel for naptime.
After naptime, we went to downtown San Antonio and walked along the riverwalk on the way to a Tex-Mex restaurant. It was still cold, but the riverwalk was very empty so it was nice and peaceful.
After dinner, we headed back to our hotel and realized that the reason no one was out was because the Superbowl had started. :) We hung out in the room, had tea and hot chocolate while Tut played, and watched "ut-bong" (football) on the TV.
The next morning we packed up and headed to the downtown after breakfast, it was still pretty cold. We explored the Alamo for a while, Tut enjoyed looking at the cannons.
Then we had lunch at a German deli and headed towards the courthouse via the riverwalk. We had no trouble finding it and we got there a bit early.
Fortunately, our lawyer also was early and brought some candy and little toys for Tut. :) Once the judge got back from lunch, we headed on into the courtroom. Everything went very quickly, we just all went up in front of the judge and before we knew it, it was over. I think taking the pictures with the judge took more time than anything else. :) I am definitely thankful we went with a lawyer who is very experienced in adoptions. The process could not have been easier.
After that was all done, we got seven copies of the adoption decree just in case. Apparently, in order to get more official copies we would have to have the court order unsealed, so I figured we would just be safe. :) Then we said good bye, Tut seemed sad to see the lady with the candy leave, and we headed back to the car and got on the road.
The trip back was pretty uneventful, other than one pretty heavy patch of fog that lasted about a half an hour. Tut fell asleep about an hour from home and we got in at 9:30pm. It was a nice little family vacation and it feels great that the adoption is final!
Now, I just put together the N-600 to file for Tut's certificate of citizenship and got it in the mail. I hear it can take up to a year to be processed and sent to us. Hopefully ours doesn't take that long! Happy seven months home!
