Cuteness

Wow, I am actually doing two posts in one month. Pretty amazing. :)

Yesterday, Tut was pretty cute. Particularly in contrast to Monday where he was in a very tired, horrible mood and literally screamed himself to sleep. It almost felt like we were back in Thailand and was definitely the worst evening we've had in a long time.

Yesterday, however, was very different. It started with wearing socks on his hands. :) We couldn't find one of his mittens which usually isn't a big deal because it warms up outside in the sun pretty quickly. Yesterday morning was very cold and since Tut reacts to the cold in the morning the same as getting out of the tub (he cries) Robby put socks on his hands. He seemed to appreciate them. I found the other mitten last night, fortunately, or we would run out of clean socks much more quickly.

Tut also passed some self imposed memory tests with flying colors. He had a doctor's appointment and when we were waiting in the examination room, he immediately went over to the sink area and asked "book?" "where book?" The last time we were at the doctor's office, there was a little pamphlet type book by the sink that we looked at to keep him entertained. I had forgotten all about it until he asked about it. His last appointment was back in September!

After the doctor's appointment, we stopped by Target to get a few things. We haven't been there since maybe the middle of December to avoid all the holiday rush. We turned a corner in the grocery section and Tut asked for a chocolate cookie. It took me a minute, but I remembered that the last time we were there, they were handing out samples of chocolate cookies in that area of the store. Unfortunately for him, there were no snacks this time.

On Monday, we had sandwiches with leftover ham and Tut had his usual deconstructed sandwich. He noticed that we ate sandwiches like normal and pantomimed eating a sandwich and talked about how Pa and Mom eat. Yesterday when we had dinner, he asked to eat like Pa and so I made him a little sandwich. He (mostly) ate it like normal and made a big deal about eating like Pa. :) This is the first time he has really eaten a sandwich, he usually takes them apart or prefers to have the ingredients separately. He might have caught on sooner if we ate more sandwiches in our house. Usually we have quesadillas for the "easy" meal.

We have a Dilbert daily calendar that we enjoy reading every day. Yesterday, Tut was looking at the cartoon and pointed at the coffee maker in the picture and said "coffee." This is mostly intriguing because we don't have a coffee maker at home and we don't drink coffee at home. I'm guessing he saw one at school. :) Another funny thing he does is usually we change the calendar to the next day at dinner and then we pass it to each other at the table and often laugh after reading it. After a few months home, Tut sometimes started asking to see it. He would hold it and look at the cartoon, laugh and say "funny!" :) I guess he just wanted to participate in the evening ritual.

Tut also surprised us by liking scalloped potatoes and ham yesterday. He ate quite a bit of it and he ate some mashed potatoes today. Maybe he is getting used to them. :)

Very cute!! Thanks for sharing Tut's cuteness and your continuing adventures in parenting a little boy still learning the "American" way of life!!

Cute, cute. Sounds like Tut is identifying with you two and wanting to be like Daddy and Mommy. That's the best thing we could wish for : ). That good memory will be a big help to him throughout life, too.
